Whales Are Multi-Platform
Sophisticated prediction market traders do not limit themselves to a single platform. They operate on Polymarket, Kalshi, and other platforms simultaneously, sometimes taking different sides of related contracts across platforms (arbitrage) or concentrating their directional bets on the platform with the best liquidity for that specific market.
If you track a whale's activity on Polymarket alone, you might see them selling YES contracts, which looks bearish. But on Kalshi, they might be buying the equivalent YES contracts at a better price. The net position is actually bullish, but single-platform tracking shows only the bearish-looking sell.
Cross-Platform Position Reconstruction
Reconstructing a whale's total position across platforms requires matching their identities or wallets across platforms, which is not always possible. On blockchain-based platforms like Polymarket, wallet addresses are visible, and the same trader can be tracked across on-chain platforms. But matching a Polymarket wallet to a Kalshi account (which operates off-chain with KYC verification) is generally not feasible without additional information.
What is feasible is monitoring aggregate whale activity on each platform independently and looking for convergence or divergence signals. If whale wallets on Polymarket are buying YES while large traders on Kalshi are also buying YES on the same event, the convergence across platforms is a stronger signal than either platform's whale activity alone.
The Information Asymmetry Between Platforms
Different platforms attract different whale populations. Polymarket's crypto-native whales may have different information advantages than Kalshi's US-regulated institutional traders. A divergence in whale positioning between platforms might reflect different information bases rather than one group being wrong. Investigating the source of the divergence, rather than assuming one platform is right and the other is wrong, often leads to the real insight.
Practical Implementation
a thorough whale tracking system monitors activity across multiple platforms, flags convergence (many whales across platforms agreeing) and divergence (whale positioning differing across platforms), and presents the cross-platform picture alongside single-platform views. This multi-platform view provides a more complete and reliable signal than any single platform's whale data alone.
