Snow Panic in Texas

Over the last couple of days, the Dallas area has experienced a record-breaking snowfall. 12.5 inches at the DFW airport!

Needless to say, everyone here is in complete snow panic mode.

The schools are closed, the roads are empty, and the stores have been ransacked for the obligatory snowstorm menu of milk, bread, eggs and toilet paper.

I’ll never understand this. What is the dire need for milk, eggs and bread when it snows? I lived in Washington D.C. for six years and it was the same way there.  With every threat of a snow storm, the stores look like Moscow at the height of the Cold War. Apparently, everyone has an urgent need for French Toast when it snows.

Mrs. Pig and I stock up on Bacon, Doritos and Cookie Dough.

Yeah – that Global Warming is really doing a number on us. Reminds me of an old joke from Drew Carey:

“I love Cleveland. The weather just terrible there – too cold. All we want to know in Cleveland is where the hell’s all that global warming we’ve been hearing so much about. That’s all they ever do in the winter, stand outside with an aerosol can. >ssst< That’s right. F**k the grandkids. I’m cold now.”

Well here in Boston we were supposed to have a major snow storm two days ago — snow emergency declared, schools closed, workers sent home at lunch time etc. — and in the end, nothing happened. Maybe an inch or so…

Ha! I quoted that Drew Carey joke with some friends last night!

    Great minds and all that…

    Dear DataPig,

Those of us in Minnesota understand how to survive a snowstorm and obviously you have the first ingredient–bacon. While both nourishing and delicious, it also adds the extra layer of insulation needed to make it through the cold winters. In the event of a blizzard, bacon can be used to fashion skis, sleds, or other transportation devices. And most importantly can be fermented in to bacon vodka just like the pros do it (http://www.bakonvodka.com)!
