Show Formulas will Also Show Unformatted Numbers

Most of us already know that you can put Excel into a state where the formulas show – instead of values. This function is called Show Formulas (on the Ribbon: Formulas tab -> Show Formulas).

.

You can also press Ctrl ~ on your keyboard to put your sheet into “show formulas” state.

.

.

What you may not know is that Show Formulas also shows the raw unformatted number value for each cell.

In this example, I have formatting set to show numbers in thousands, negatives in Red, and zeros invisible. When I press Ctrl ~, I see the raw numbers.

.

.

Of course, you can click on any cell and see the actual value (without formatting) in the Formula Bar. But the Show Formulas function allows you to basically see these values all at one time. You can think of it as showing the Formula Bar for the entire sheet.

.

By the way – pressing Ctrl Shift ~ will clear the formats for any range you select. It’s a quick and easy way to reset formatting to General if you need to.
